Do you live in a food desert?
The USDA has released a map of what they deem to be food deserts, which are
“places where there is ‘low income’ and ‘low access’—or places where at least a fifth of the population lives at or below the poverty line and where there isn’t a supermarket within a one-mile radius (or within a 10-mile radius in rural areas). All things told, about 13.5 million people nationwide have little or no access to stores selling healthful food.”
My favorite toy of the day the USDA’s interactive Food Environment Atlas which maps such things as ethnic and socio-economic demographics, access to food, health, and food assistance programs. It’s pretty depressing, but really interesting to play around with the patterns (i.e. the Gulf/Atlantic coast area being top in almost every negative statistic).

the female form.: Selling Fat Acceptance to Fat People
As I have moved from accepting to at times selling fat acceptance one thing I have realized to my own utter astonishment is that “normal” BMI people are actually more open to discussing and listening to anti-diet and fat…

Science Experiment of the Day: The photo on the left? That’s the before.
Personal trainer Drew Manning has spent the past five months intentionally gaining 70 pounds by eating all the stuff you like to eat — frosted cereals, white bread, chips, mac n cheese, frozen dinners, and soda — as part of a personal project he calls ”Fit 2 Fat 2 Fit.”
Drew, who will soon begin the arduous journey back to fitness, hopes his experiment will teach him something about how the fatter half lives.
Asked what he’s learned so far, Drew said the biggest thing was “how intense and how real these food cravings are.” He goes on:
I know I’ll never know exactly what it’s like for every person that’s overweight and I don’t claim to, but at least I understand better than I did before when I never had to struggle with this. I hope to learn a lot more in the second half of my journey, from fat 2 fit.

nooottt really sure what this is about but it’s interesting
They never smile when they take the fat picture
This exact same stunt was done 2 years ago by an Australian personal trainer called Paul James. To achieve his goal weight of 120kg, Paul had three litres of chocolate milk, crisps and bacon for breakfast, and a whole chicken and chips before bed.
Both Drew and Paul are self-serving douchebags.
If they wanted to understand fat people better, they could have fucking talked to fat people. Instead they are becoming the stereotype and seeking international press, which will only serve to cement fat stigma in many people’s minds.
Cheers, dicknoses.
